Mateus Tesson-Kiss
Mateus Tesson-Kiss is a French dancer, choreographer, and teacher born in Fortaleza, Brazil. Before devoting himself to dance, Mateus spent ten years training and performing at a high level in artistic gymnastics, an experience that profoundly shaped his physicality, discipline, and understanding of movement. His transition from sport to art marked the beginning of a journey driven by curiosity, creative instinct, and a desire to explore human expression through the body.
He pursued his professional dance education at the prestigious Ballet Junior de Genève, where he graduated in 2019. During his years of training, he had the opportunity to immerse himself in a broad spectrum of choreographic styles and collaborate with internationally acclaimed artists such as Hofesh Shechter, Alexander Ekman, Maguy Marin, Thomas Hauert, Olivier Dubois, Jozsef Trefeli, and Barak Marshall. These formative experiences enriched his artistic language, sharpened his interpretive sensitivity, and affirmed his commitment to contemporary dance as a powerful space for research and transformation.
Following his graduation, Mateus participated in various artistic projects across Europe and the Middle East. He worked with Orly Portal in Israel, exploring the fusion between contemporary movement and traditional cultures, and collaborated with Swiss choreographer Rebecca Spinetti, deepening his engagement in multidisciplinary processes. In 2020, he joined DART Dance Company in Berlin, where he quickly became an integral part of the ensemble—not only as a dancer but also by contributing to the management and structure of the company, helping to organize tours, programs, and international collaborations.
Over the years, Mateus continued to expand his range through work with artists such as Keren Lurie Pardes, Clyde Emmanuel Archer, Gustavo Ramírez Sansano, and Blenard Azizaj. His approach to movement is informed by a strong physical foundation, a poetic sense of presence, and a deep interest in musicality and improvisation. Alongside performing, Mateus has been active as a teacher, sharing his expertise in contemporary dance, partnering, acrobatics, improvisation, and creative composition with both professionals and pre-professional dancers. He has taught within the framework of DART DSP, as well as in workshops and intensives across Europe.
Mateus is also an emerging choreographer, creating pieces that reflect his taste for intensity, introspection, and abstract narrative. His independent works include By Oneself (2022), While I Sleep (2023), After a While in the Exile (2024), and While I Was Born (2024). These creations have been performed in France, Germany, and Hungary and form part of an evolving choreographic trilogy exploring identity, memory, and transformation.
In 2021, Mateus co-founded the Nossetssik Dance Company in Montpellier, France, together with Tamás Tesson-Kiss. Their company is rooted in a shared desire to build an inclusive, international platform for emerging and established artists, bridging experimentation with transmission. Since its founding, Nossetssik has grown into a vibrant and ambitious project, encompassing professional productions, a junior company (T.O.N.E.S.), and the establishment of a new dance studio and artistic hub in southern France.
Mateus continues to nurture his vision as an artist committed to collaboration, physical storytelling, and the transmission of knowledge through movement.
