About the event

After a While in the Exile is a visceral exploration of identity, belonging, and resilience. Through the work traces the journey of individuals who are displaced from their homeland, navigating the aching void of separation and the evolving sense of self in foreign spaces.

The performance unfolds in three movements: Displacement, Reconstruction, and Reconciliation. It portrays the abrupt severing of roots—chaotic, fragmented movements convey the shock and disorientation of exile. The dancers weave fluid and angular forms, representing the complex process of adapting to a new culture while holding onto memories of the past. At the end there is a poignant reflection on acceptance and growth, where moments of stillness meet bursts of collective energy, evoking the bittersweet realization that exile reshapes but does not erase one’s essence.

Set to a haunting score blending traditional instrumentation and electronic soundscapes, After a While in the Exile is an evocative narrative of human resilience, a dance that asks: How do we carry our roots when the ground beneath us is no longer the same?
